Greetings! It doesn’t take people long to discover my joy in cooking. In these pages, I share my love of recreating dishes from the Middle Ages as a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA). These are dishes people would make prior to the 1600’s, using “recipes” described in sources (manuscripts, books etc) dating from the appropriate era and region.

The Middle Ages is a period in European history from the collapse of Roman civilization (5th century CE) to roughly beginning of the Renaissance (1600 AD). The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) is a worldwide organization of people who recreate parts of the Middle Ages. People in the SCA pursue “…research and re-creation of pre-seventeenth century skills, arts, combat and cultureā€.

Recreating period food is an exciting challenge. I hope you are inspired to explore and try these for yourself.

The research, trial and error, and finished product are all part of a wonderful journey.
